Saturn Enligh SSF infos
Posted by: Bobbi at 4:33 am CET
Fans and users of the Saturn emulator SSF might already have tried to make any sense out of the documentation, which is kinda hard as it's written in japanese.

Now Borisz, our long time translator from Emuforums, has created a new site called the SSF Tribute Neo, which features the emu documentation, a complete archive of previous versions, tons (and I mean TONS) of screenshots and lots of other useful information.

So if you always wanted to play around with this emu and were unable to because of the japanese documentation or if wondered if your favorite game is working on SSF (and how it's looking), make sure to give this great site a visit.

Saturn SSF v0.09 Prototype R1 out
Posted by: Bobbi at 7:56 am CET
SSF, most likely the best Sega Saturn emulator out there, has recently been updated to v0.09 Prototype R1. As usual, the version number doesn't tell too much about the progress, so let's take a look at the change log (thanks to Borisz as usual for the translation):
    SSF Ver0.09 prototype R1
    Interrupt processing of the SCU was updated.
    CDDA processing was updated.

    Save State data version was changed.
Okay, that might not help all of us a lot either, so let's just say this version is able to run popular games like Rayman and Sonic R now.

Saturn SSF 0.08 Alpha R8 released!
Posted by: Chrono Archangel at 5:57 pm CET
This is also something we missed earlier. Another version of SSF has been released bringing a nice overall speed boost to games. Here is the changes translated by our buddy Borisz :
LFO processing of the SCSP was updated.
Dynamic Recompilation processing of the SCU DSP was implemented.
The Sleep command/instruction of the SH2 was updated.
Dynamic Recompilation processing of the SH2 was updated.

Since the SCU-DSP was greatly accelerable, the DSP Thread option was deleted.
Also, the synchronous processing of the main threads had to be removed... (not sure about this line)

Save State data version was updated.
Sound recording was enabled.
Key assignment is F9 for Sound Recording.

Since the sound recording is performed by a low piority conservation thread,
it may not work in case it lacks a surplus of machine power.
When recording sound, please do not enable Scanline Base Timing and the Always Running options.
Furthermore, sine resampling processing of PCM is due to be changed in the near future, sound quality may change delicately soon.

Saturn SSF v0.08 Alpha R6
Posted by: Bobbi at 7:39 pm CET
Good news for all saturn emulation fans: Over at the official SSF homepage (japanese), a new version of this popular emu appeared today. Thanks to our loyal member Borisz, we do have a change log available - take a look:
  • Interrupt processing of the SCSP was updated.
  • SCU DMA processing was updated.
  • SH2 dynamic recompilation processing was updated.
  • Memory access processing was updated.
  • Memory access wait processing was updated.
  • It seems that the correct wait value was somehow misunderstood before.
  • Bitmap processing of the VDP2 was updated.
  • VDP2 cycle pattern specification (designation/assignment?) mistake processing was updated.
  • The exclusive operation of the CD access LED was updated.
  • Updated (fixed) the SlaveSH2 Idle Loop option, it was not functioning even when enabled.
  • The X/Y/Z rotation and Slider 2 are now mappable on controllers.
  • Savestate data version was changed.

Although the behavior of a few games have become strange, R6 must be closer to the system. I will find and correct problems in the near future.

Even though compatibility hasn't increased a hella lot, we can expect great things from this emulator in the close future!

Saturn SSF 0.08 Alpha R5' released!
Posted by: Chrono Archangel at 11:07 pm CET
Here's another release of the great Sega Saturn emulator SSF. Borisz was kind enough to translate the changes for R5.
Subcode Q processing of the CD Block was updated.
The battle progress explanation screen in Gungriffon and the demo screen of Gungriffon 2 have stopped skipping.
Window processing of the VDP2 was updated.
Memory Access Wait processing was updated.

Mission Stick, Multi-controller and Mahjong Panel inputs have been hooked up.
Key arrangement (for the Mahjong Panel):
A-N = A-N keys
Kan = Ctrl key
Pon = Alt key
Chi = Space key
Riichi/Reach = Shift key
Ron = Z key

An option for the (SCU) DSP to be processed in an exclusive thread has been added.
However, since synchronization with the SH2 will become difficult, software with high (cpu) load may fail to work.

CPU usage for dual and multi-core enviroments has been set up.
Exclusive threads processed by the CPUS:
for 2 cpus (Dual Core):
CPU0 - Main Thread
CPU1 - VDP2 Draw Thread

for 4 cpus (Quad Core)
CPU0 - Main Thread
CPU1 - VDP2 Draw Thread
CPU2 - VDP1 Draw Thread
CPU3 - DSP Thread

Save State data version was updated.
Savestates from previous versions cannot be used. Since it's becoming difficult to maintain compatibility...
From now on, if save state data is changed, (backwards) compatibility shall not be taken into consideration.

Although analog input has been hooked up, it has not been checked much.
Since I only have a XBOX360 controller...
Seems like another great release. Try it out guys.
