Nintendo DS NeonDS v0.2.1 released
Posted by: Bobbi at 11:14 pm CET
Another update of the highly active NDS emulator NeonDS has been published today. This version is just a bug fix version for users who experienced issues with ATI cards - here is the change log coming with v0.2.1:

Rendering problem on ATI card is fixed. If you are using ATI cards, select "ATI" in the settings dialog "rendering method" option.
When limit60fps options is enabled, the emulator will auto skip frames in order to have smooth gaming on slow computers.

Great to see such an active project - now I'm really looking forward to sound being added to this neat emulator!

Nintendo DS NeonDS needs your help!
Posted by: Chrono Archangel at 5:48 am CET
Our buddy orz, author of NeonDS, stopped by our forums today in need of some help. Here's what he said :

It has been several months since the last release of NeonDS, nice to see the forum is still here
Recently I have spend some time working on develop the emulator, the good news is that I completely rewritten the 3D rendering pipeline using OpenGL Shader Language (GLSL) and the result is very well, most 3D games have better lighting calculating and texture blending results. The downside of using shader to implement 3D rendering is that different graphic card may yield different results, or even do not run at all. Currently I'm using a NVIDIA 8800 graphic card and on my system the emulator runs smoothly, super mario 64 runs at 90-100 fps, castlevania portrait of ruins runs at 60-70 fps, and so on. Before I publish the next version of the emulator, I'd like to ask for people to help me try out the emulator WIP version and let me know how it is working on their systems. So, if you are interested in help me, please send a private message to me and I'll send you a copy of the WIP version. After trying it please let me know (post in this thread is ok) your system configuration (CPU/memory/graphic card) and your test result. And also, as the test program is still a WIP version, so please do not redistribute it. Thanks!

Oh, forgot to mention in the last post, to run the GLSL, you need at least an OpenGL 2.0 compatible graphic card.

If you think you can help out, contact orz via PM on Emuforums!

Nintendo DS NeoDS v0.2.0 released
Posted by: Bobbi at 2:39 am CET
This great NeoGeo emulator for the Nintendo DS has recived yet another update recently, increasing it's version counter to v0.2.0! If you haven't seen this one yet, it's able to emulate most NeoGeo games on the Nintendo DS at great speeds.
To run it, you need a DIDL compatible flash card and need to patch the .nds file first - you can find the corresponding tools for this over here. Let's take a look at the emulator in action (thanks to Kellicros for these shots):

The latest release adds lots of fixes for popular games, so compatibility is now even higher - let's take a look at the complete changelog of v0.2.0:

  • Key configuration
  • Pause key
  • Put DS to sleep when lid is closed
  • Save SRAM and NeoDS configuration to flashcard
  • Fix crash when switching roms on certain flash cards
  • Fix palettte bank swap bug on tile layer (metal slug 1 hud)
  • Improve accuracy of vcounter, and vposition interrupts (fix freeze in Samurai Showdown 3, fix graphics in Blazing Star level 2, probly others)
  • Fix issues when using dldi and slot2 ram from same flashcard (like supercard lite)
  • Fix graphical corruption that occurs after a while when using slot2 ram

Go ahead and download NeoDS v0.2.0 now!
Make sure to leave your feedback in our handheld discussion forum
