The software renderer gets faster little by little.
SSE4 didnt bring any speed up to the last swizzle update.
That one update speeds up FF12 license screen, the whole Xenosaga
and other games benefit as well.
So, at least the SSE4 svn version got faster over 1.8 release.

On a sidenote: Breath of Fire 5 is heavily cpu bound on gsdx.
Doing PGO on it speeds it up from 60fps to 80fps in the whole game

I made some teste between 1.7/1.8/1.9.

Hardware:
CPU: Intel Pentium Dual-Core E2140 1,6@3GHz
Graphic Card: GeForce 8800 GT 512MB Gigabyte
RAM: 2x 1GB Kingston
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3

Software:
Pcsx2 0.9.5 SVN Rev. 377
ZeroSPU2 0.4.5 (muted)
Linuzappz Iso CDVD 0.7.0

Game: Tekken 5

1)All plugins configurated to Software mode with Native. Test made on map "Dragon's Nest".

1.7 SSSE3: 3-4 fps
1.8 SSSE3: 9 fps
1.9 SSSE3: 9-10 fps

2)All plugins configurated to Hardware mode with Native. Test made on map "Dragon's Nest".

1.7 SSSE3: 26-30 fps
1.8 SSSE3: 26-31 fps
1.9 SSSE3: 27-32 fps

Soon I will try to make test also with SSE2.

I have found strange dependence in FFX-2, when dress is changing FPS is going down(~7) but when Items menu is open FPS is full(~106)
There can be elimination of this dependence will increase FPS in other games?

you can use the 1.8 sse4 because it uses sse4 instructions only in a few cases. the 1.9 svn has MORE ss4 code.

you can use 1.8 only because you never "found" any of those cases. You should just use the ssse3 version, given you don't have sse4.

Judged by the screens you're just pushing your 7600GT too hard with too high internal res. At the 7 FPS screen you're clearly gpu limited and lowering internal res would help to speed it up. Your rig is unbalanced from start, your CPU is a lot better than GPU which makes cases like these even more obvious.

Q6600 at stock speed isn't enough for 100% on FF12, try OCing it at least to 3ghz
Using an SVN beta version of PCSX2 with speedhacks enabled can give a nice boost too, but it's not supported in the forums, so don't come whining if it crashes or still isn't fast enough.

BTW: 8600GTS isn't a bad card, but it might be a bit too weak even for some PS2 games...

no internal res =1024 in first and second screen
Try to open Items menu before dress is changing and you will see how changing process speed up in 5~10x.

I CANT BELIEVE THIS!!! Holy ****, I didn't expect such a incredible Performance-boost!

Today I got my 9600GT and I had the 7300GT before:

Games I've tested with 7300GT (40%oc-GPU/20% oc-Mem) Dx9/9600GT(~20%oc everything) Dx10:

- Crash Bandicoot the Wrath of Cortex 40%/90% in most places
- FFX 90% min settings/100% @1680x1050 with filtering etc.
- Tales of Symphonia max 10%/ 60%FPS!!!! Incredible! 6 times faster

Tested in same places ingame and with newest svn (377 main and GSDX 791)

Those aren't graphical errors, FFX-2 is just VERY AMERICAN.
