i don't think schumi's point was that they were irrelevant to the plot.
but rather them being female adds nothing to the plot, and its only there for sex appeal.
Matsumoto and Innoue's huge breasts for example are clearly for sex appeal.

I'm not a fan of characters like Innoue myself. She barely has any personality or does anything interesting herself asside from having large breasts. Rukia is a far better character imo.

I know what schumi said :P and it stands, them having huge breast doesn't bring nothing towards the plot, but them being females does bring (in case of Matsumoto and Innoue).

As for the second part, actually Innoue does have quite a personality, she's more like the mother Teresa type with huge breast bonus rather then the Tsundere/fighting type that is Rukia.

that doesn't sound like "quite a personality" to me.
anyways been a while since i watched bleach, but to me i consider her type of character lacking in personality. she's shy, barely does anything except get kidnapped, etc...
sick of characters like her.
most of the females in bleach have more of a personality than her. even her friend who is a side-character, Tatsuki Arisawa, has more personality than her.

Inoue got her personality during the beginning of the aizen arc. Right after she realized she was useless.(which isn't true at all, she has god like healing abilities)

My favorite bleach character has to be Matsumoto though..

Why cause she doesn't go on kicking everyone's balls of ? No she's the docile kind who has no fighting abilities but excels at diplomacy, has a good heart and all that stuff a bit of a clutz to true and innocent but its nice to also see a character like her, brings a bit of variation and while the fighter type is nice i also enjoy seeing something other then that, someone innocent enough to morn both an enemy and a friend.

Well they aren't healing abilities, she just mainly uses her powers for healing, but her powers are god like, that is true, they are some kind of time rewinder for the said target to be precise.

They're Demons/monsters, he's a demon/monster killer, it's called gratitude for saving and sparing their lives. Especially Goku has reason to be thankful since he was chained up all alone in the middle of nowhere. The sole reason they exist is to protect and help him.

the show would've been improved with some female love interests imo.
one of the characters iirc did have a wife at some point prior to the events in the series, but i won't go into detail to avoid spoilers.

and i'm not talking about females for fanservice, but females to add romantic elements and to make the series seem less boys-love-ish.

There's nothing boys-love-ish about the show if for no other reason than that they aren't all boys but 3 of them are demons/monsters.

Also as you said they're on a road trip, which means they stop over in a town and move on. There's no way to put a love interest into that setup unless it's a single ep where you see some dude's past squeeze before they move on again. Or it would just be a bunch of whores, or the love interest would have to be on the wrong side.

Granted I had kind of forgotten that I mentioned Bleach as well as I made that last post where I was basically just pointing at Naruto but it almost still applies.

None of the characters you mentioned actually needed to be female. Ichigo would rush off to save a childhood comrade just as much as he would childhood friend who happens to be a girl. Matsumoto and Yoruichi only exist for fan service. And Hinamori doesn't need to be female either.

Wrong if Hinamori was male then She would have been gay/homesexual, same for Matsumoto and Innoue, Yoruichi as male would have really su... leaving aside the looks the attitude really is awesome for a female, just cause you don't give a damn and jump over emotional/romance stuff doesn't mean the rest of us do, in fact more of us care about such things then the opposite. Either get an emotion chip or stay out of things such as this :P, and like Xblade said Bleach barely has any fanservice if any at all.

Also Bleach has quite a few with oversized jigglies, that counts as fan service in my book.

Look I'm not saying they need to be male, just there's no point to them being female either.

Then theres no point in Ichigo being male, Rukia being female, Hisagi being male etc. The same could be said of any character if you're going to disregard aspects of their personality\sexuality to fit them into a stereotype. And fyi, There are 3 Big Breasted Woman in bleache's main cast..........and countless not big breasted woman\hot guys. So I don't see what you are trying to say.

Rangiku is my favorite character btw . I don't think I need to tell you I'm not interested in her sex appeal. Matsumoto= Comic Relief more than fan service

because she doesn't take action, she's indecisive, she's shy, she doesn't go out and do anything on her own.
those are the qualities of someone w/o much of a personality.

people with a lot of personality are strong willed and spirited, more assertive, they make decisions on their own, take action, they talk more or are constantly thinking, etc... they have some 'spunk' to them.

anyways, i am talking about the innoue before the aizen arc since i haven't fully watched that arc.

there's ways to do it. they can stop in a town for a week and have a girl decide to follow them on their journey or something after being saved by one of them and falling in love; something like that.

also the thing about the girl being on the wrong side (i.e. an enemy), and then she turns good eventually. that could work.
i think there were some cute female enemies in the series. or maybe they were good guys? can't really remember.

anyways since you're defending the show so much, watch it already ;p
like i said its flaw is really the on-going ending. but the series was decent iirc.

The point I was trying to make is that unless their gender comes into the major plot line (or minor romance subplots start to get explored) it doesn't matter whether shows are full of girls or boys. Thus a show that's just full of guys isn't automatically gay.
