That doesn't make sense. That's not even a business model. If they offer everything you say they do, why would people care to pay for upgrades? Also, why would the paid people continue to pay when they see all this stuff being given away for free?

The domain was registered in late May of this year, the server is only hosting 15 domains, and the server's located in the Netherlands. It's a recipe for failure if you ask me. They won't last long.

Edit: Actually...weird, the IP tracing must be off. The traceroute leads into the same datacenter I host my servers at.

Well a lot of people will upgrade for more space such if they were running a large scale website with legal downloads such as businesses.

There are cases where more than 8 gigs would be needed for a legit website. At least it's not as bad as free or some paid hosts who say they offer unlimited services and unlimited bandwidth (Which they most likely don't since theres no such thing as unlimited bandwidth and speed).

Also if the host happens to meet unfortunate doom, I'm going to have a backup performed each week in case I need to find a different host and switch.

Agreed. If people need anything more/better/higher, they'd usually just switch services, or ultimately go fully commercial. A lot of them usually switch to forced ads after getting noticed and registrations for something such as "no ads" or obscenely high numbers they can't even guarantee to even paid customers. Call it hypocrisy. Small hosters can be AWOL quite often too, so bummer for "quality 24/7 support"...

Well can anyone suggest anything better?

250 MB is not enough space considering the forum/CMS software can take anywheres between 2 or 3 - 5 or 15 MB. Then you have to account for the database itself as well as attachments. GE's database I believe with attachments eats up a little over a gig by checking the ACP.

1 - 3 gigs is what I need, even if they had a small or medium sized ad banner at the top, that would suffice.

A lot of these hosts use this stupid control panel software which makes me unable to upload certain mods or files since it spits a filetype is not allowed error back. Also they disable PHP Sendmail so if I am running a forum, users won't be able to activate their registration because the conformation email would never arrive.

Honestly if I had the money right now I'd pay for hosting, but since I don't I'm stuck with a pretty limited amount of.

Also if I could host it on my computer I would do that as well, but unfortunately I am unable to on satellite internet not just because of bandwidth restrictions but because of the fact my PC isn't accessible externally through the internet from a remote location because of the absence of a static ip and the fact everything through satellite is very heavily Nat's or routed and I'm on a shared ip with other subscribers.

The 250 MB plans were never originally designed to suport a forum. They were tailored to fit a blog or a small personal site while remaining as affordable as possible. It's supposed to be as bare bones as you can get while still qualifying as "useful" webspace.

With some of the changes we're implementing, you'll be able to get a plan with 1 GB of space starting at $6/mo. 750 GB drives are much more available to us than they were four years ago when we had originally set our servers up. This time around, we took large, redundant storage into account. All the servers are using 750 GB drives in their RAID arrays, now.

Well I am keeping you in mind for when I get some money to do so, but plan on hosting a forum on my PC once I get an apartment in the city where I can one again get real broadband either Time Warner Roadrunner or Fios.

I have a few questions though, is your host (You) making enough income to keep everything going for a while?

Like if I were to decide to pay for hosting through you I wouldn't have to worry about moving my website/forum to soon if something happens?

What's the uptime for you host?

Do you have ad's or are you an ad free host?

Also do you allow emulation discussion or website like Ngemu or General Emulation as long as anything illegal isn't hosted like roms, iso's or Bios's?

Do you accept pre-paid mastercard's? They're good for online purchases, I just don't know if they are accepted by hosting providers.

Well those are my questions, as I said I'll definitely keep you in mind once I've exhausted all my options to find a fairly decent free host and I have the income to do so.

Not to discourage you, but I tried this around the time I was writing my plugin manager utility. In fact, that's sort of how the whole thing started. Once word got around and it was hosted on NGEmu, which linked to my site, my connection became pretty worthless. My upload was ALWAYS exhausted. It was good practice, though. In the datacenter we host in, we have full 100 Mbit connections to the net and can upgrade to 1000 Mbit if we choose.

Flaretech.Biz was officially established in 2003, acquired by another company in 2006, and now I'm taking back all the assets and customers and the service will be re-branded and incorporated into the new company a partner and I incorporated last month. In short, I've been around for at least four years already. I don't plan to go anywhere soon.

I wouldn't anticipate that.

I don't charge people to put ads on their site.

Everything but illegal content (common sense). So, yes...adult content is even allowed.

As long as it has a Visa, MasterCard, or American Express logo on it, we can run it.

Any other questions, just ask.

Ok Flare as I said I'll keep you in mind for future hosting. I'm going to go with godaddy as mentioned by HCR in a PM about a month ago.

I have a couple questions:

1. How do I get a promo code for godaddy.com?

2. I chose the the next plan up from the Basic which offers 100 GB of space, 1,000 GB of bandwidth, MySQL, PHP, email etc...

That costs $6.99 per month and I chose 1 month. Will that mean my website or account will go kaput after the 1 month is up or will my website account still be up and they charge the $6.99 to my card every month as long as I have it?

I'm also going to add a domain for $2 a month, so I need an idea on a name for my emulation and tech support website. Suggestions are welcome.

Total is $9 per month not counting tax if there is any.

A promotional code will help me save some money on it, so I won't sign up unless someone can give me a promotion code or let me know where I can get one.

Ok I went through on the order, it says I can get a domain for $1.99 with any non-domain purchase. What do I have to do to get my $1.99 domain with my hosting account?
