Is it possible to change my start pokemon mid game via cheats or smth?

From a storyline standpoint (rival's selection) not, but you can get Pokesav and edit in any 'mon of your choice. And next time, tell us which game you are refering to. There are at least a dozen Pokémon games, just for DS.

Well, at least it's easier than the Mystery Dungeon series. As said, get Pokesav. If you want the 'mon to be "legit", you can search for its values, moveset and stuff on Bulbapedia. Just remember if you want its Pokedex entry, you need to hatch it from an egg.
