Some kind of comedy thread

As opposed to asking for good comics, I thought we might have a thread to talk about any comedy you've seen recently, or any specials or programmes worth watching.

I've been binging on Opie & Anthony with comedian guest appearances on youtube, the absolute highlight has been Patrice O'Neal. I have never heard anyone like Patrice, who has an uncanny ability to analyse anyone, pinpoint exactly who they are, then go on to destroy them mentally and emotionally. His fierce intelligence is underrated and his appearances are always gold.

His special is dynamite too, Elephant in the Room is phenomenal and while the comedy central cut is pretty short, the uncut version is spectacular, his comments about relationships, sport, race, anything is brilliant. Unfortunately he passed away last year, but his comedy and his ability is a fine rarity.

Louis C.K is another favourite of mine. He writes, directs, acts, produces and edits his own masterful show Louis and is essential watching for any comedy fan. His ability to turn awkward moments into brilliant set pieces is magnificent, his stand up shows his brilliant mind.

The last special I watched was Kevin Hart's Laugh at My Pain, Kev is a short and high spirited comic and he talks about some honest and quite painful moments from his life in spectacular fashion. His routines about his crack addicted father are monstrous, his mother's funeral, money, his kids, its good solid fast paced comedy. If he slowed his speech down a little bit, his 45 minute stand up would go for at least an hour and a half. He also avoids falling into being a stereotypical 'black comic' and appeals to a much broader audience.

These are just a few great specials I've seen recently, what about you guys?

Unfortunately I have almost no exposure to any of the good american comics. Basically all I've seen is a bit of Chris Rock and then a couple of Jeff Dunham shows though since he's a Ventriloquist I'm not entirely sure he applies.

Sure it applies. Especially since he always does a warm-up standup routine before he takes out "the small guys". And those are simply hilarious.

Yeah he does. Though imho those warm-ups tend to be a bit hit or miss, or at least I can't always identify and thus don't get the joke. His Walter and Ahmed acts are generally awesome though.

Outside of louie ck and george carlin, there isn't many commedians I enjoy for more than a few minutes. George and louie both have a certain brutal honesty about them that I enjoy.

Bill Engvall has a strange style his jokes at the beggining are okay but as he progresses out he lets out some really awesome jokes, i was laughing like crazy the other night, here' an example (not the whole show is him just the first one to go):

Ha, Jeff Foxworthy. Some tv station has been playing his sit com recently, and although its about as safe as it gets comedy wise, I do like his style. Of his stand up I've seen, I love how laid back he is.

Oh man this is awesome, around the 2 hour mark the boys are talking about the kid being shot in the gated community that happened in Florida and some caller tries to join in on the conversation with some horse**** opinion, and watching Jimmy Norton systematically and repeatedly illustrate to him and to the listeners how damn stupid this guy is.

It's fantastic.

The swinging his feet bit is god damn brilliant. It't too bad Kevin and Bill Burr's tv show never got picked up by a network, that **** would be brilliant.

Bill Burr, one of the best comedians today has put his new special "You People are all the Same" on his website. The cost? A measly $5 through paypal. Bill's comedy is tremendous and I highly recommend everyone to check it out, and hey for $5 its a god damn steal. Louis C.K who pretty much pioneered this distribution model for comedians and their specials, getting away from the confines of publishers has made a motza by doing this (his stuff is awesome too). So check it out yo.

I'm also going to see Bill live at the Opera House on the 19th, show is going to rule.

Additionally, omgwtfitssteve on youtube has uploaded just about every appearance of Patrice O'Neal on Opie and Anthony, there is literally weeks worth of material on there, from topics of race, women, movies, comedy, prison stories, trashing each other, dildoes and the legendary eating of exotic animals bit, there is so much good stuff on there, I implore everyone to sit through them all as it is some of the funniest, brutal, and at times heart warming bits of radio ever recorded.
