PS Vita memory cards cost up to 120$

Sony wishes everyone a merry thanksgiving!

http://www.gamepro.com/article/news/...ost-up-to-120/

Quote:
Back in October, it emerged that a memory card would be a compulsory requirement for some Vita titles. To get the most out of the system, you'll likely need a memory card anyway, though, particularly if you're planning on downloading a lot of DLC or PSN games. Until now, the U.S. pricing for memory cards hasn't been very clear, but thanks to GameStop we now have a better idea of what to expect.

Expect to pay anywhere between $29.99 for a 4GB model right up to $119.99 for a 32GB card. To put that in perspective, most Vita titles are looking like costing around the $40 mark, making the larger memory cards more expensive than the games themselves. And unlike the PSP, which used Sony's Memory Stick tech also found in many of its digital cameras, the Vita uses its own proprietary brand of memory card, meaning they're pretty much an essential purpose for anyone planning to pick up the new handheld.

Vita launches on February 22 of next year.

Why does Sony want to bury the Vita before it's born? Why does Sony has such a fascination with proprietary formats?

When, in their long history, was a proprietary format EVER successful? And no, Blu Ray does not count, Sony developed that with several other tech companies such as Toshiba.

This has Betamax written all over it.

I can smell the cesspool of failure already, how bad can the promotion and management be behind this device...N-Gage comes to mind again.

Dunno about over there but over here that's just about what a 32GB MicroSD card costs as well or at least not that much more so it's not that much of a problem.

Meh. I don't see proprietary memory sticks as much of a big deal or a big surprise from Sony..... But the thing about these proprietary formats is that they might have faster data transmission rates than their SD Card counterparts, not to mention it will probably have MagicGate technologies implemented as well, as with all Sony proprietary memory formats. I really could careless about spending $120.00 USD for a 32GB memory stick because it's going to be absolutely essential for storing multimedia, DLC, ROM and ISO images for emulators once I can hack it, or get my hands on that Sony Beta SDK :|
