Installed Win 8 on my PC and honestly, I am not very impressed.

As mentioned by others Win 8 has a very jarring experience, tasks that should be very simple (like shutting down windows) are a real pain.
Seriously, Why do I have to log out just to shut down Windows?

I have found myself having to "teach" LMN how to use it, which I have never had to do before in any windows os.

I really was expecting a better experience ten what it currently supplies.

Also, a while ago it was reported Win 8 would fully support 3D Vision and at least so far I can't find any 3DVision settings to activate it.

I was excited for Win 8, but the consumer preview is making me think I will stick with Win 7 once its released.

Well in defense of the 3D Vision part that needs to be done in conjunction with the videocard manufacture maybe that's why ?

Very likely you are correct. I ain't fussed by that really.

But the other "problems" in Windows 8 need addressing ASAP

I personally do not like some areas of Windows 8 but from a developer and a business stand point i see a lot of potencial and oportunities for UI devs. The reason is quite clear and that's the fact that Win8 lacks some stuff and if they aren't added till release date devs are going to have the oportunity to create tools for the comunity or even sell them and earn some money if necessary which is one of my plans.

Since MS is bringing a new interface and user experience it is normal that people will refuse to use it or won't like it at all since they are used to the same style since ages... However there is a reason why they are doing that as they had to enter the mobile world too which is very lucrative atm. Still i would preffer to have 2 versions of Win8 instead of a hybrid one. However the base of the development is still C# and XAML and that's nothing but awesomeness at its best.

Currently dualling booting it on my laptop. Was on it for about 2 hours yesterday so far.

The experience is definitely not ready for prime time. The forced switching in and out of metro due to lack of apps, and the lack of a start button in regular explorer make it really really jarring to use. The two are completely seperate, but at least for now, are super dependent on one another. It's like two half baked experiences battling each other for your time.

There's definitely a long way to go before this is usable, and unless they iron out the UI a good bit, I think it might just crash and burn upon release. There's the potential for something great - bummer is it's just potential at the moment.

I vote that^, i got nothing against them moving on the mobile market but don't screw up my experience cause your lazy... i also got nothing against them trying to give it a shoot on the PC for more casual use, but again give me the option to choose between the good old regular use and the new one, which brings us back to lazy.

Ballmer was quoted saying: developers, developers, developers, developers...

This time is: tiles, tiles, tiles, tiles, tiles, tiles, tiles, tiles, tiles, tiles, tiles.....

You don't. You go to the lower right corner, Settings, Power.

I prefer to wait and see what they do. I see lots of places to tweak and improve, but I also keep in mind that they have the better part of a year still before it's released.

You know it's not released, right?

Well, I guess we can reserve our judgment until it's released since it's evident that Microsoft did "change" (read: degrade/downrank) features going from the Developer Preview to the Consumer Preview.

On a side note, taking a whole year to bring Windows 8 to tablets isn't a good idea IMO. The tablet landscape has changed significantly. Depending on what Apple announces in their iPad 3 next week, it will change a lot of things.

While Microsoft is working on their software, Apple will have yet another year to pile on the success of the next tablet that they'll announce. And the same goes for Google and all Android manufacturers. Imagine that...

To Microsoft, it's beta XXXX. (based on build)
To observers, it's Beta 2 (after Developer Preview).
To Microsoft fans, it's Beta -1000, and public release is considered beta 1.
To Microsoft haters, it's a piece of ****.

Personally, I think it's beta 2, or at least the second version of Windows 8 that Microsoft is comfortable with sharing to the public. And also personally, I think the current version is a piece of ****.

Funny, though, I actually like the blocky and minimalist interface. I just absolutely dislike its performance and the way it's laid out.

Weren't they hiding behind complaints on the dev preview by claiming it it's a pre-alpha's pre-alpha proof of concept alpha or something like that?

Basically what I was asking is can MS still hide behind the excuse of it being the earliest of days or has the cat finally been let out of the bag completely (or at least enough for me to go find a pitchfork)?

Yeah, they can hide behind that excuse as long as their fans allow them to.

In fact, I think they can definitely get away with it until Release Candidate starts showing up on torrent sites... if we still have torrent sites by the time Microsoft is done "changing" Windows 8, that is.

Getting a bit used to it on my netbook.

What sucks is that I have no gestures on my trackpad, so I can't swipe to see all my tiles and can't pinch to zoom on the metro iexplorer.

Looks like they removed the reg hack for getting rid of the metro UI as I do not see PREnable where it was in the Developer Preview registry which just sucks. Guess I could try adding it and hope that it works.

What a pain.
Cant seem to share on the network, even the homegroup doesn't connect.
