FarmVille-addicted mom shakes baby to death

Quote:
Alexandra V. Tobias, a 22-year-old mother from Jacksonville, FL, plead guilty to second degree murder in the death of her three-month-old son. She was angry because her child was crying while she was playing FarmVille on her computer.

Tobias says she shook her baby while angry, then smoked a cigarette to calm herself down before shaking him again. The baby may or may not have hit his head on the computer while she was shaking him. The incident happened earlier this year on January 20.
Internet addiction is a very real crisis, and games such as FarmVille are designed to be addictive in order to get players to spend real-life money on them. Unfortunately, sad incidents come out of addictions quite frequently and it's people like Tobias who give Facebook games a bad reputation.

Alexandra Tobias will be sentenced in December and could be looking at 25 years to life in prison.

FarmVille-maker Zynga has not released an official statement about this tragedy.

Now imagine what would happen if those people ever encountered Harvest Moon.

Not only she killed her own baby for a game, but the said game was... farmville?

Well at least no one have committed a genocide for Kirby... until now that is .

That is such a sad story!

I just don't understand how a couple could put more importance in raising a virtual baby over there own real flesh and blood child

I tried getting into farmville, I really did. I would force myself to harvest my crops every couple of days, even though most of them would have died by then. Then plant some more and start over. Eventually I haven't checked my farm in like 6 months. Just can't get into it.

Harvest Moon on the other hand was awesome.

Not the first child death from video game addiction. I remember hearing a long time ago about a child who starved to death and dehydrated because the parent was addicted to everquest.

She lost everything...

Some people can't moderate themselves while playing games. I remember someone played MW for straight 20 hours or something.

I did a better job caring for my real pet rabbit than my virtual one. If my virtual pets I'd be in jail for animal abuse!

Does this sort of stuff happening really surprise anyone? People cease feeding themselves, give up work and sleep over this.
Games like Farmville are deliberately designed to be extremely addictive, nothing like games such as Counterstrike or Call Of Duty:Modern warfare (where mild addiction is only a rare occurence in compareason).

I'm guilty of recklessly throwing around Chao in Sonic Adventure.

This is something could brick your brain...
I remember playing games for over 15 hours (PS1 days). Hell, I was insane enough to play the same games over and over. That all happened on vacations though.

Sometimes I find myself playing MGO for over 4 or even 6 hours. But I can't do that daily, I have work to do.

I did do some freelance PC on some rare occasions if the pay was good (a pc maintainance could earn me a month's worth of smokes (and i smoked one and a half/two packs per day...)) other then that i didn't really need money for anything else back then, all i spend it was on smokes anyways, i tried the official for a around a month but i didn't liked it compared to DEX...
