Perpetual "Your Music" Thread

Musicians - post your works here!

Having been a drummer since 7 years old and having a strong musical ear, I took up composition/performance/audio engineering about a year ago, as a hobby. Now pretty much any free time I has goes to music. I hope to make a career out of it.

Here's a snippet (4 bar intro) of a project I began last night, a remix of "Buttville (The Descent)" from Earthworm Jim. I write original material (which is primarily inspired by old school gaming) too. I'll post some soon.

Tools I use:

Ableton Live 8 (DAW)
Amplitube for amp/rack/stomp simulation
Addictive Drums interfaced to SMI1450 e-kit
Absynth 4 and Ableton Live Pack synthesizers interfaced to Akai LPK25 keyboard
Behringer Eurorack UB1622FX analog mixing board

No loops, I record everything one-shot. More time consuming, but I find my music to turn out much more dynamic that way.

Original:

Well, I can't very well post much of it ... but I'm in a band called I Forgot. It's simply awful. But you sure can listen if you want!

My Playlist by I Forgot on MySpace Music - listen to songs & purchase MP3s

And it's probably elsewhere. I think if you go to hell-toupee.COM you can find more.

Yikes. Was that recorded with a tape recorder? Sorry man, the mixing is so bad I can't listen to it.

Actually, some of the older tracks were indeed! I know, they're really bad. Over at hell-toupee.COM there are some that sound much better as far as quality is concerned ... Not ... really ... as far as talent .

Yeah, no disrespect intended but you guys need some major practice. That's all it takes though.

If you guys have digital copies (ie, wav files) of your tracks (assuming you're recording guitars/vocals/keyboards separately?), I'd be happy to master them for you. A more refined mix would help in ways you wouldn't imagine.

Well the whole point to the "Band" I Forgot is to be open-source in a way. We do have all the files from the recordings, all are digital. The thing is, being an open-source model, we just take whatever help is given. Sadly though ... I mean, I've tried everything on the mixing side, and there is just no polishing a turd.

... Well, actually you can get a literal turd to shine so nicely that you can see your face in it. But you get the idea. Hell-toupee.com, again!

Inspired by MVSC3, improvised mostly. May become a full song, not sure yet.

Opinions?

You should make it a full song, then release it on Jamendo. I like it.

Sorry I haven't updated this thread much. It's hard to get much done in the way of hobbies... life is busy. Anyway, I just finished up a remix I started a few days ago, of Faxanadu (NES)'s overworld theme (be sure to watch at youtube in 720p, or download the MP3) .

Download MP3

Nice idea. I know I've posted these already in another thread, but here's some of my drum covers for some of my favorite tracks. This is using a Guitar Hero controller connected to the PC and with the help of some cool software (PS360 drum midi controller + ASIO4All + FL Studio) I can use it like a normal set. I know it's not the same as a real set, but with the money I've had to spend on visas and another one coming up soon, I just don't have the free cash to get a real one for now. So this will have to do. Just a heads up: Bad Religion by Godsmack is my best one thus far. I'll be doing more in the future.

Tip: Choose 480p for much better sound and picture.

Also, there's no need to point out that I have some moments where my timing was a little off, I know that already. I guess it comes with not having played in 12 years. That said, with the more I play, the more I'm getting to be as good as I used to be.

I used to use PS360 Midi with the World Tour set for quick recording, then I came across my SMI1450, for $20 unused at the flea market. It's not perfect for a drummer, but MIDI + a good drum sampling plugin (ADDICTIVE DRUMS ), makes for extreme convenience and quality.

Good stuff, glad to know there's another drummer around here. Props.

Funny you mention Addictive Drums. It's the same plugin I use in FL Studio. I tried RMIV, but in the end, AD was easier to config and has really good samples. Thanks dude. I ALWAYS love meeting new drummers. (Drummers rock ) Strange that for as long I've known you, I never knew you were.

Haha, I'm sure there's a lot we don't know about each other.

This gets me thinking. Perhaps we should collaborate on something - an NGEmu theme song maybe?

I like the idea, the only thing is figuring out a song that suits NGEmu... Maybe Dare to be Stupid by Weird Al? In all seriousness, I'll try to come up with some ideas and you let me know if you hit any winners.

Anywho, here's a couple videos I did just about an hour ago.

Despite that this thread turned out to be a massive failure, I'll continue to add things. Here's a new little song I came up with and recorded/mixed/mastered last night, called "Complacent Kings". I won't bother to post it on youtube, so here's a download link. If you happen to download it, some thoughts would be good.

In the key of E minor, lots of arpeggios. The result is not too bad for a pursuit inspired by severe boredom and a night of no (real) work.
