I like Fifth Gear more, Top Gear is all "Moar Speed!! Moar horsepower!! RAWR!!" Fifth Gear does more innovative stuff to, while performance is the main theme, they also focus on accessories, economic feasibility, safety and unique competitions (like the train vs. SUV vs. boat vs. bus in London race, the Aurofighter Typhoon vs. Ferrari race and many others).

Pimp my ride is great! They take wasted beaters and convert them into road eating machines!
I love Top Gear, it shows of all sorts of hot cars, and they don't just consider performance, they show the special features of the car, and later test performance.

The problem with pimp my ride is in all of them it's just the car's interior and exterior that's damaged, the engine always purrs like a kitten. I have never seen them take a car that has more than just cosmetic problems. They are essentially cheating.

The worst I have seen with regards to the actual mechanics of the car was a broken reverse gear.

Actually, there are some cases where the body of the car is so beaten up that they have to purchase brand new cars for the recipients. Isn't that what you should call cheating? After all, after buying these new cars, they still 'pimped' them. This happened on three occasions.

Schumi's right, they don't do much for the ride's engine, but in the 'street' context, pimping the ride is supposed to make the car an ultra-sexy, girl-magnet, in-the-backseat sort of machine, and girls don't care what's in the hood when they're in the backseat.

you haven't seen all the seasons dumbFK
there are episodes where they fix F'd up engines and make them into monsters.
There is even an episode where an old muscle car is given a racing transmission and dyed Tires just to get a colored burnout smoke.
They have even put NOS in cars.
