After checking, it seems there is no GPU based program for Linux, and since all of our computers are Ubuntu enabled... I guess its their lose

Put a couple more blades in. One more HS20 and one more LS20. I'll wait a couple of days to see if my results are actually reaching the server...after that I might put in an octocore HS21.

folding@home however, wouldn't be something i enjoy, so it counts as work for me. plus, i do get credited coding for pcsx2, unlike folding@home.

However, I don't think I'll be able to put those to use Folding because those get wiped all the time...I've just put Folding in our infrastructure stuff.

Thank god PS3 only uses 120-200W per day... so I guess I just gotta shell out that extra $10 per month, eh? ![]() But on top of that, I can still listen to music and read some news on Google News. And the client is called "Life with PlayStation" instead of Folding@Home so it's not exactly putting me off anymore. ![]() Anyway, I joined with the PS3 (more economical than my PC, I bet). And at the rate I'm going. Maybe about 2-3 work units per day. Last edited by runawayprisoner; March 10th, 2009 at 22:21.. |

That would be so awesome D.D, I'm really interested in what numbers you'll be able to generate. I didn't even know you were havnig such a position in a company of that calibre. Kudos dude ![]() Shame about your GPU's though Proto, maybe the SMP multicore client will be an option still? And RAP, how can a PS3 use 120-200W a day, when a Watt is joule/second? Sounds like faulty reasoning to me Anyway, the PS3 has proven to be a very good workhorse for this project. I seem to finally have found a way to get Folding to run stable here. I downclocked my GPU/Mem to 720/500 and I didn't get a VPU recovery anymore. On top of that the entire deal runs quieter and cooler, while I lose a minimum of productivity. About 3 hours per work unit now.

I'm not actually in a high position at all. I work in a hardware lab in IBM where we setup a lot of x86 servers, test them, etc. That said, a bit of a followup is in need. I set up the clients to work on "big" units because I figured they would be on 24/7 anyway, so its a good chance to give back to the community in a way that most people won't be able to. Still though it'll take a while to complete, since I can't in my right mind use the beta-SMP Folding client on our infrastructure machines

Seems like two of my work units made it in, so I decided to put more instances on the Quadcore machines. Previously they were running at 1 core only (one instance on one core), so I put one more instance such that utilization is now at more or less 50%.

(though I have talked to and shaken the hand of the head of the technology branch in Canada on several occasions)That said we do have a secret project being built closeby in Toronto and upon completion should be the most powerful super computer in Canada. I should be able to get my hands on that baby soon enough Don't know if I'll be able to install Folding@home on them though, as mostly they'll be running customized Unix (AIX) on the Power6 boxes or a flavour of Linux on the x86 boxes.

I don't know if I am or not, so just in case I'll assume I am. Sorry to be a tease but it should be public soon anyway. EDIT: actually there was a press release a while ago http://www.news.utoronto.ca/campus-n...-from-ibm.html It does give some detail as to what it'll be but nothing exact.

And to think that you will get your hands on that! I have ONE REQUEST. See how fast FFX can run via PCSX2 on it

I'm in the lead! ..... for now. At least until Cid starts up his GPU client again. The CPU SMP client finished a WU last night that netted the team an additional 1500 or so points. This was thanks to the "a1" core. I was running 2 simultaneous instances of FAH and both were processing an a1 core. After doing the math, I figured out that one of the cores wouldn't finish before the deadline. (they only gave me 3 days ) I shut down the other FAH client to allow the other to finish.Afterward, I restarted the other client only the receive the dreaded "Work Unit Corrupted After Shutdown" error. Bah. Seems that stopping the a1 core before it finishes often results in this. -_- EDIT: As a note, NGEmu is now in the top 30,000!
