OpenGL crashes with 8800GTS

Well I got told unceremoniously to move my query to a separate thread so here it is gurus: I have used a 7300GS and a 7900GT without problem. Now I plugged in my new 8800GTS and I get the following error:

"cannot render the opengl plugin. You might be missing some extensions. Check the error log".

So does anybody have any idea what might be the problem? I'm using all newest possible drivers, 178.13 and August 2008 DX9. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to go back to 7900GT land!

You can go to nvidia control panel, then change the extension limit to "OFF"

Extension limit is already off. And I have disabled multiple monitors.

I am not formatting my computer. No way Jose. All I need to do is switch back to the 7900GT and it'll work no problemo.

Try completely uninstalling the drivers then using Driver Sweeper then reinstall them again something could have gone wrong in the change of drivers.

Thanks Shadow Lady I'll try that tomorrow

Sorry, no way I am reinstalling my Windows.

Shadowlady I uninstalled all my drivers, rooted out a couple of stray Asus ones, reinstalled the Nvidia driver and it works! Thanks for your help.

For others who find this thread, ASUS installs a custom opengl driver ATKOGL.dll, which is apart of the Asus enhanced display driver, this must be removed via add remove programs, when using any driver other then those provided by ASUS, even if you are using the same asus card otherwise the OGL subsystem is rendered useless.

Yeah I think that was the problem. Just dig out anything Asus related if you change graphics cards.

you should complain to them actually, this problem should have been addressed in the manual ages ago.

Yeah there's too many custom drivers making problems sometimes, which is why it's always recommended to completely get ride of them each time you change hardware/drivers. Even if it's just a hassle sometimes :x

I get the same error message jasong got about opengl, but i have not changed my graphics card. i dont have any extra uneccesary dirvers, i have uninstaled and reinstalled my graohics card, and updated the drivers for it and still i get the same error message. i have just instaled my windows like a month ago so im not sure if reinstalling it would work. and also it just so happens that before i installed windows i formated my drive so i have done both of those reciently, so im not sure if doing it agian will help.
so does anyone have any other ideas?
graphics card is "intel(R) graphics media accelerator driver for mobile report"

Oh...you don't have a graphics card, that's why. Are you on a PC or a laptop? You really need to go and buy an Nvidia graphics card.

Probably a laptop and that kind of card looks cheap and simple and probably doesn't really support OpenGL or D3D.

dont have a graphics card?, i dont think so, i have had to reinstal drivers for it before and it made obvioulsy visual differences when i did. I had the previeous release fo Dolphin working on my computer, though it was like 9fps, but it worked.

That's a (very poor) graphics chip. I have one, I know. Trying to emulate a GameCube on an Intel graphics chip is like trying to go 200MPH on a kindergartener's tricycle. It won't work.

Think of it this way: if others before you had complained to ASUS and they fixed the problem, you would've been able to play Dolphin sooner. It's this exact (selfish) attitude that may affect other thousands of users who may not have the resources or knowledge to fix the problem themselves.
