A question to the developers of Cxbx: considering what you learned about emulating the Xbox during all these years, how accurate are these considerations?

That thread is nearly 7 years old, but you still have a good question. If you're reffering to emulating the Xbox's hardware as a possibility, then here's my say on it. Xbox emulation (via LLE) was far from a reality back then. But today, there's barely enough information and maybe a few powerful enough machines to pull it off. Some of those posting were smart enough to realize that Xbox couldn't be emulated then, others weren't. Some of them were right, others were wrong.

In other news, I've been continuing my work on Cxbx and the game Smashing Drive (XDK 4242) over my holiday weekend, and now it get's much closer to ingame than it did before. It shows a completely white screen (like Halo) when rendering 3D, then crashes on a missing DirectSound function. So now it stops crashing in random locations. One thing's for sure, never judge the difficulty of emulating a game by it's graphics! Since 4242 is highly similar to 4361, it eases the pain of not having that particular XDK. It's mostly the DirectSound related stuff causing problems (mainly because DirectSound support in 4361 is lacking so bad), but I'm adding better support for it tonight. So far basic sound buffer playback works perfectly, now I need to add the 3D sound stuff.

Just thought I'd try to keep you all updated so that you all can rest a little easier after the sudden silence. Stay tuned.

shogun.

so, is cxbx developed in one game basis? I mean u make one xbox game more compatible with cxbx at a time, not the whole xbox system. wow, i wish i could be pro like u so that i can make my favourite games playable

You'll need to use dstien's (Nisse's) branch for Futurama.

Let me see if I can find the build I compiled a while back...

EDIT: Attached the last compile I did. It should include the Futurama stuff...
Attached Files
File Type: zip cxbx-dstien-r128.zip (305.4 KB, 93 views)

I'll hopefully upload it after I'm finished with my latest changes. Still [lots] more DirectSound stuff to do.

Not for a very long time. This has been covered before but iirc one of the emulator authors said ninja gaiden is too complex codewise (uses too many system libraries and kernel functions) to be viable soon.

Have a faith in them. They will pull it off for Ninja gaiden to be playable in the future but not at anytime soon.

macamba: you can not play games with cxbx or dxbx.
to run annything on your system, you need to install a 32bit os.

64xp or vista 64bit is not supported. so or install xp 32bit or intstall a virtual pc with 32bit os.

hi, blues excuse me your svn is in vc2008?? and how is the internal problem? there not a force break o force skip method?? you nver use the cxbx debug? prefer just in time?

maybe like you solve the permision to unreal maybe some aplications like that can make intro status at more games..are cxbx live yet ? blues i think that you´re cxbx now there are not other cxbx dev..practically you´re the only hope here...the solution to all this is make a tutorial for fixes

make a emulator or changes in, is not like be a simple dev, write in c++, commands...many people doesn´t understand that, there are a lot of codes and iso routes that need be encoded, bios interpreted to win32 , and the graphics way and more is very hard, but there not a tutorial....i think that is very important a great comunity for makes more emu devs is my litle idea

good luck - greetings blues

artoor32: SourceForge.net: Find and Build Open Source Software
insert cxbx or dxbx in the search and you find the webpages for downloading the sources.

You need a tool like tortoise svn to get the sources from the servers.

In the menu public on the pages, there you browse the svn.
if you select the option above you see some text and somewhere there is a test like
pserver:anomenious@cxbx.sourceforge.net etc.... insert that into your tortiose svn and branch insert a . then you will get all the sources from cxbx or dxbx.

Macamba: Have you tried turok evolution or yust a other game ??
try turok first when you see stuff you know it works. thats the basic step. insert turok see stuff.
then you know everything works.. then you can test other games.
