Re: GameCube ripe of the picking
Freeloader is a different story entirely. It can be run from the framebuffer hack for PSO even. It's commercial, but it's more of a demo than anything.

Oh ok didn't know that. But still quite a thing to be accomplished IMO.

Re: GameCube ripe of the picking
If there is nearly fullly playable emulator for 128-bit consoles before the 256-bit reseases, wont this emulator reduce much the sells of that console? I mean something with gameboyadvance-there was emulator even before the release of this 32-bit pocket console. Some of my friends were going to buy GBA,but they didnt cos they didnt wanted to pay 30$ for 16MB game when they can play that game with beter graphix and no limits(batteries, light).Only one bought GBA and he plays mostly at home(he have PC athlon 1700+,512 Ram) ...Very strange,it was better if he bought Gamecube but it doesnt matter for me.

Re: GameCube ripe of the picking
Emulating gamecube is gonna require major firepower in your pc, emulating the flipper will prob take atleast a R9800

Re: GameCube ripe of the picking
i think someone should try to emulate the gamecube with the apple g5 and the 9800 pro mac edition. since the hardware/architecture used with the gamecube is very similar.

Re: GameCube ripe of the picking
I hope they can't get this up at all to tell you the truth. Prices are dropping, and freeloaders should open their cheap ass pockets and pay 100$ for a gamecube. Luckily, at this point, like the ps2, they're likely not to have anything useable 'till at least the next psx/nintendo systems are out. Just imo. ![]() - Modem |

The ideal computer for emulating the GC is as somebody above said a PowerMac with a fast graphics card. Would still be very difficult to do, since the flipper is very unlike any ATI or NVidia graphics card, but at least speed would be a lot faster than for example Dolphin's powerpc emulation on x86 is. |

the data on the gc dvds is buned from the outside in, and it spins in the usual direction. i saw a video of some people who had burned a gamecube dvd and you see the laser starting at the edge. ill get a copy of the video and upload it as soon as i can.

I think the console-developers don't like seeing their 'engine' being reverse engineered (f.e. if I remember correctly, Sony sued the creators of Bleem for making a prog that emulated their 'beast' ).Perhaps what I wrote here is discussible: you could say emulation isn't illegal as far as people play original games and have the console theirselves (f.e. I own a PSX myself and some games, so would it be legal to play those games on my PC? Honestly, I think not ).The only legal thing would be emulating a console only to play and develop homebrew games on the proggie. Look at it this way: if emulation was declared legal, console-developers wouldn't spend their time and money in investing ways to make emulation of their product impossible. Anyways, don't mind me, guys, I think emulation rocks. The only thing I hope, is that people don't abuse it by only playing copied stuff ...

Centric, since when does console manufacturers "spend their time and money in investing ways to make emulation of their product impossible" ? That's pure bull****. Console manufacturers invest time and money to prevent piracy in at least the first few years of a console's lifetime, since that's where the money is. Of course this has had the side effect that it's not possible to just pop GC or DC discs in your PC and read them, but the main reason that modern consoles are so hard to emulate is that they simply consist of very advanced hardware which is very different from a PC.

Centric, unless you know the facts, please don't make false claims. Emulation is perfectly legal. IIRC, Bleem won the court cases. What happened was that Sony continually took legal action forcing Bleem to pay large amounts of legal fees which depleted their funds, and killed Bleem.

My apologies ...But I do think that console developers don't want their console seeing emulated, since they loose money after all :S... But indeed you were wright regarding Bleem (my mistake).Sorry anyways... |
