Just got discharged from hospital...
Hey guys. Since Wednesday, I have been admitted to the hospital for my crohn's disease. It was horrible. Most of you know about my disease and that I have been to the hospital for it before to get medications, but my disease just got out of control for no reason. Scared the hell out of me. And scared the hell out of everyone else. I had to be admitted. I'm lucky I got out today. I don't really like talking about the disease because I don't want people to think that I am a "hey look at me and give me pity!" person. But I really need some help here and thought I could turn to this community. I keep throwing up and bleeding. The hospital wanted me to try to stay on a pretty bland diet. For a few years, I have been trying to keep a mainstream easy going diet for my body to try to help control the pain of my disease and to prevent the attacks the best I can. Does anyone have any knowledge of crohn's disease? Or would be able to find a good diet list? I realize that not everything works for every crohn's disease patients. But I just want as much help as I can. Thank you for your help everyone. I really do appreciate it.

I am really sorry that you have to struggle with this.. I can imagine that it's never easy to have an illness, regardless what it is. Heck, i have none, but half my face is paralyzed, and that's hard enough. I'm afraid that i don't have a specific answer to your question, but i did find this: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0001295/ ...which wasn't hard, i just googled it and it was the first link. So don't thank me for that crap But i can imagine that you would have to eat food that isn't hard to digest, and water is definitely important. And i probably wouldn't eat too fast, i think i would go easy on it. Nothing strong. Eat REAL food, no artificial crap, at all. And i would probably stay the HELL away from soda. But that's just me, and you probably have way more answers than me.

.. im not so good with stuff like this. but what i found was that. you should keep a close eye on your diet. http://www.webmd.com/ibd-crohns-dise...ease-diet-plan http://health-tools.health.msn.com/l...crohns-disease you should maybe read some medical books on the disease, so you have a better understanding of the disease and how to deal with it. |

I've been eating fruits and vegetables for 11 years now, no meat and sodas, drinking 10 glasses of water a day, plus I never drink nor smoke and especially never stay up late , thanks to that habit I never caught even a cold or cough for a decade and it also helps slows down the aging process , even my friends doesn't believe it, I look 7 years younger than them. Anyway I hope you get better soon ^_^ And I forgot to add that during morning, I take my morning walk for 5 Kilometers for my exercise.

Consulting a local dietetician or similar council familiar with your file might be to advise. For now, you might want to consider a low residue diet (short term, as nutrient complements should be necessary). |

I'm sorry to hear that, hope you get well soon! Regardless, I would suggest consult an actual nutritionist. You need to put both your physical and mental health into consideration. Diet is not a book that everyone follows. You need to put your daily routine, body weight, muscle ratio, hormones, nutrients, and etc. into consideration. What works for others might not work for you, and vice versa. Consult the opinion of an actual professional to give you your personal suggestions for diet.

But that diet that you have could not work for me. My Crohn's disease wasn't something that was caused from any health mistakes. I've always had the gene but when I had a very stressful event, the disease became active.I also do not drink nor smoke, which are both really good things that I shouldn't do. I love fruits and vegetables but those two can be some of the worst things for me to eat, especially when they're raw because it rips up my intestines even more. I can't really exercise at this time either because of my stamina. ^^; Sometimes within a few months, I can lose up to 40 pounds and then turn around and gain 40 pounds back due to dehydration and nausea and not keeping food down. But you do have some really good tips. I should start to drink more glasses of water a day. That would definitely help me out a bit. ![]() Thank you so much for your suggestions. Quote:
I would love to see a dietician but I don't have the finances for it and nor do I think it would help me so much unless if the person is specialized in a Crohn's disease diet. I'll see if some person like that is around my area though. It's worth a shot for me to check out. ^^ Quote:
Like I told Rikki, "I would love to see a dietician but I don't have the finances for it and nor do I think it would help me so much unless if the person is specialized in a Crohn's disease diet. I'll see if some person like that is around my area though. It's worth a shot for me to check out."And you're right, there are many factors that I need to consider with my diet, hence why I am trying to find more advice from it. It's not like you are dieting to lose weight and know not to eat fat or artificial foods, or other such things. I need to be very careful. This is going to be a long and hard process for me to realize the perfect diet for me. It's already taken a few years and I am positive that it will take me more than that to get a more defined diet. I just wanted some advice so that I could kind of get a head start on the diet, you know? I know Temple Grandin had Crohn's disease even though doctors could not diagnose it at the time because of the era at the time. But she kept up with her diet with cups of jello and cups of yogurt. That was pretty much her diet and I don't want to do that because I want a more nutrient enriched diet and I know it will improve my health and also curve my attacks. Thank you everyone for your advice and prayers once again. <3

I hope you get well soon! I have have never heard of Crohn's disease before. A low sugar diet may help though I wouldn't really know.

Thank you again for your love and support guys. ![]() I'm happy to report that the new steroid they make me take has already started to help. They usually have me use this particular steroid after I have to be rushed into the hospital. It's to reboot the system. I only use it for about a week because of how strong it is. Seems like it's working. Still working on a pretty bland diet though. I only just barely started to drink milk again and incorporated some chicken in my diet. Tonight I had a hamburger. I shouldn't have had it but what kind of American would I be if I didn't eat one on July 4th? Lol. Just sticking with a diet of a couple of a bananas, a bowl of plain white rice (they think that bleached rice would be better for my system now instead of brown), a cup of jello and lots of fluids. I'm trying to branch out slowly and carefully with what I eat and the amount of physical exertion I do. Has anyone here heard of rice milk? Dairy isn't really something I should have in my diet and so I've been curious of maybe trying rice or almond milk. Almond is very sweet (at least the ones I've tried) and I have never had rice milk before. Has anyone tasted it? Is there a difference between the taste of real dairy milk and rice milk? It doesn't sound very appetizing to me.

Rice milk is okay. I love Asian soymilk, not American soymilk. and yes, the two taste VERY different. There are machines that can make soy milk for you, you just need to buy some soybeans. Asian soymilk taste like the ones made from the machine, so I do not know what they did to the American soymilk lol... sweet bean curd is awesome as well, you can either eat it warm or cold.

Hi Bree. Finding subsitutes (e.g. for dairy) might be somewhat disheartening at first, but you just have to remember that every change you can get used to, even when it involves taste. Quote:
My mother's diet was: fiber-rich, absolutely no lactose, and a bare minimum of fat. Straying from it definitely made it worse in her case.

Im sorry to hear that Pooka... Ill keep you in my prayers. My suggestion is steamed vegetables. Spinach especially, or any leaf like vegetable. For the fruits you can make smoothies to avoid eating them raw. No milk of course. Lots of water also.
