I highly doubt always-on requirement. Only in the US and Europe can you really get away with something like that. The infrastructure in the rest of the world isn't quite at or near 100% internet access. You would greatly reduce your market if you require something like that.

Yeah, I agree. Maybe they could have a switch on it. Flip the switch, and the console runs in "internet off mode". But you still will be able to play the games. Flip the switch to on, and you activate all of the consoles online features.

Also, getting sanctions on their forum can cripple your Origin account and disable all games you bound to that Origin account (assigned games cant be assigned to another new account). Of course, games bought on discs should still install and run fine.

Also, EA was apparently found to have been paying people to troll discussions on the web to EA/Bioware's favour.

I wonder why anyone would want to post on Origin if it could cost them their games.

Which makes you wonder what those messageboards are for?

Ownership will become a relic from the past if this continues. Controlling access to things allows to charge for that.
Like with cellphone/mobile carriers and ISPs, there's enough much room for meteors to pass through.

The serious version of Notch's new game :
http://0x10c.com/
(Jokingly announced as Mars Effect on the 1st)

"The game is still very early in development, but here is a list of things we hope to include:

Hard science fiction.
Lots of engineering.
Fully working computer system.
Space battles against the AI or other players.
Abandoned ships full of loot.
Duct tape!
Seamlessly landing on planets.
Advanced economy system.
Random encounters.
Mining, trading, and looting.
Single and multi player connected via the multiverse."

How the frag does one pronounce that?

ZeroExTenC just doesn't flow off the tongue...

That said, unlike Minecraft this game could actually be somewhat interesting.

Featuring in the latest issue of Arena Homme+, your favourite characters from FINAL FANTASY XIII-2 dispose of their casual clothes in favour for something from the latest Prada 2012 Spring/Summer collection.
It feels like an alternate universe where the characters are cosplaying as normal people.

Edit : Another interesting Kickstarter project.

Shadowrun is a very very interesting setting and it would be nice to see what they would do with it. They're already doing pretty good in funding, standing at 75k out of 400,00k with 24 days left.

People are taking advantage of kickstarter, but as long as some good games come out of the bin and entice more studios to defect and go indie, that's welcome, I guess. Especially if this means reasonably priced games in the end and much more decent profits for the makers.

Come on now, you know you too wouldnt have paid bonuses to those greedy studios like Obsidian. Sure, their game made the publisher +300 millions, but the contract insisted it must have had an 85/100 rating on metacritic (obtained only 84 so no bonuses hahaha. It is good to keep gamemakers underpaid, underfed and vulnerable).
