Unhappy In Memoriam: Chris "ChrisRay" Arthington

Known by many as nVidia enthusiast, I sadly have to report that long term member of our community ChrisRay is no longer among us.

Geforce Team mourns the loss of 3d graphics enthusiast ChrisRay

Quote:

The GeForce team was shocked and saddened to hear that Chris “ChrisRay” Arthington succumbed to pneumonia on January 28th. He was only 27.

3D graphics enthusiast Chris Arthington

Chris was a longtime graphics enthusiast, nZone moderator, and frequent contributor on a number of forums including NVnews, SLIzone, EVGA, Anandtech, and others. He loved graphics technology and had a sincere desire to help people by sharing information, trouble-shooting, and reporting issues to NVIDIA. As a member of our user group, he helped us evaluate new hardware and advocated for improvements like advanced anti-aliasing and improved multi-GPU scaling. His Twitter (ChrisRaySLI) bio states: “Goal: Help all Nvidia users by improving their experience with Nvidia hardware.” He did that in a big way.

The graphics community and the team at NVIDIA have lost a great friend and a tireless advocate, and he’ll be sorely missed.

NVNews.net created a site to honor and remember Chris. Please go here to the memorial page and post your reflections. NVIDIA is providing support to his family, and we’ll pay tribute to Chris at GeForce LAN events and other activities throughout the year.
Chris wasn't only an nVidia enthusiast but also used to frequent Emuforums for emulation and hardware related discussions. On behalf of the community I wish all the strength in the world for his family and friends. He will be missed.

As a person who gave Chris heck on the nvidia forums from time to time, I can only claim that the world has lost one of the most relaxed, fair, easy going blokes ever to moderate the nvidia forums. Not just that, but I will also miss discussing next gen tech and new games with him, as well as bouncing performance numbers back and forth.

Heres to the loss of a great bloke!, the dosh i was gunna use on a new mouse will now be used to purchase the "Drink" required to celebrate his life.

A sad turn of events. He seemed a very nice, knowledgeable person. The loss of a good chap is felt. As they say, its the best that leave the earliest, sadly.

Thanks for sharing this Cid. This is sad indeed

I remember the days when ChrisRay often faced jealousy because he always had access to the latest and greatest video cards and other hardware. Although I hate(d) Penny Arcade, I never got to know him very well as I've only read a few of his posts. RIP mate... RIP. See you in that great video arcade in the next life.

I remember him from ages ago when he used to hang in the hardware forum a lot. I'm shocked, I'm only 1 year older than him.
It makes you think about things you take for granted...

Holy ****... I can't believe this. Throughout the years I've had many great times with Chris, he really was a stand up guy. I'm ****ing traumatized.

RIP Chris, I'll be thinking about you all the time. I still have the box from a 9800 pro he sold me in 2003..

I thought the exact same I am honestly shocked, he had just started becoming active again and I was totally expecting him to skirt dangerously close to his NDA spilling all the beans the second he's released as we came ever closer to Fermi's release.

Never really knew the guy, but I do know he was a great guy and he will be missed, best wishes to his family.

It's absolutely unbelievable... I had to read the title several times to make sure I was reading it right. Definitely ruined my morning, to say the least...

You can never really prepare yourself for something like this. Someone close being taken away so suddenly. I was so happy when he came back here recently, and then this happens...

I still remember the days when he and I used to debate passionately about GPUs. The friendship we built back then lasted long after, and we had a lot of good and bad times together. I remember one time he became suicidal over his girlfriend's infidelity, and it was all I could do to support him (that was probably the lowest point). He also came to my aid several times, defending me on these boards when others were attacking me, plus he put up with all my rants against PC games (I used to flood his ICQ with rant after rant).

To say that I'll miss him is a giant understatement. He was a genuine friend and will be missed by all those whose lives he changed.

Rest in peace, mate.
