lmfao. That is such a rip-off deal. Professional PHP programmers get paid so much more than the cost of web hosting and a domain name.

For any of you who wants a reaaally great deal for webhosting, FEAR !!

First, for hosting your images online and quickly sharing those, I recommend using the following file hosts:

www.imageshack.us

www.stashbox.org

For website hosting, I strongly recommend FragVault, wich, among those I've heard about, seems to be offering some of the best terms for personal users and first-time webmasters, as well as businesses. Fragvault definitely seems to be raising the bar very high for every other webhosters. And yes, it is FREE (as in gratis and no blingbling) !!

Hello i skimmed quickly true the last few pages. But couldn't find what i was looking for.

I'm looking for a free filehosting service. Not one like Megaupload/Rapidshare which has a limit of allowing people to download. And annoying typ the code things. Basically i'm looking for something like Photobucket. But than to host files like rars on and not only images. Atm i got snapdrive and mediafire.

What i dislike about snapdrive is no info about how often the file has been downloaded. And it's down atm ~~ Good thing about snapdrive is that you can host almost everything. And when you download, you instantly download when clicking the link. No waiting no redirecting to there page.

As for what i dislike about mediafire it takes you to there page before you can download. Other than that. It does support the download counter.

So to sum it up i'm looking for the following
- free hosting of rar files
- download counter(how often the file has been downloaded)
- no annoying redirect to there own site before downloading.
- no annoying typ this code thing.
- And free of course

The file sizes are only around few mb. So i don't need a lot of storage. So if someone know a good one. I would like to hear it.

Thanks in advance

Brace yourselves for impact, folks

One more free host spotted, and so far, this is the very best one I have tried, and it rivals even paid hosting in features. It might feature lower numbers than the others, but this one's definitely a top contender currently, and superfriendly at that too (tickets answered under 4 hours usually). Given its obvious advantage over other hosts, no way I could keep that to myself

NO CATCH (it certainly lives up to this name )
www.NoCatch.net

The following features come standard with all free No Catch accounts:

* 500 mb diskspace
* 5,000 mb monthly bandwidth
* Free subdomain (yourname.nocatch.net)
* Ability to use your own domain if already purchased
* Custom control panel for easy site management
* Easy application installer - Install 20 popular programs (blogs, forums, shopping carts...) easily
* Awstats web tracking software (statistic updates every 90 minutes or so)
* FTP Access
* PHP 5
* 3 MySQL databases / 5 MySQL users
* phpMyAdmin
* 24/7 priority ticket support
* 24/7 hardware and software monitoring

* NO forced ads anywhere (not even a single link in the footer!). No forum posting required. No signing up for other offers (either free or paid) required either. This is as free as gratis gets.

* BEST OF ALL: You can request PHP Safemode to be disabled for your account entirely (for FREE, and it's accepted for nearly everyone who just asks via a simple, free ticket submitting!!! Change usually done under 12 hours or so). Getting Safemode OFF is a major reason why people get attracted to paid hosting.

Their website is apparently safely hosted in renowned datacenters with 100mbit uplinks, with servers backed up daily.

Comment: How can they afford all that? Some answers can be answered in their FAQ page. Of course, they also have paid hosting packages, and upgrades available (differences between them listed HERE)

From their FAQ
Quote:
How are you able to offer all of this hosting for free?
We are able to support No Catch and all of its hosted customers through advertisements on our main website, donations from satisfied users, and from our partnership with HostGator. This is not enough money to brag about, but it is plenty to keep your websites up and running, and that's all that matters.

Why don't you offer as much space as other free hosts?
At No Catch, our focus is on quality, not quantity. Instead of providing resources that we can barely afford to offer, we choose to offer the perfect amount of resources in order to maintain total quality. Don't be fooled by free hosts offering large amounts of diskspace and bandwidth, because they cannot meet the quality of our service at No Catch. The truth of the matter is that most people seeking free hosts never even need more resources than what we offer, so why unnecessarily over-exert ourselves?

I hope you too like No Catch as much I did, and you find it nice for your first sites . With confirmed friendly support added on top of it, what could one ask for more, from a free host, after all ? I tried, too

Well I signed with quotaless only to find some filetypes are restricted which means bye bye Mybb mods, some themes and a host of other mods/themes. I put in a support ticket and haven't heard anything yet, the support ticket hasn't even been viewed.

I'm looking for a free Webhost which doesn't have restrictions on filetypes. They need to have PHP/MySQL so I can use Forum Software/CMS on my website. They need to offer a choice of subdomains and the ability to add your own.

Preferably I'm looking for a host that offers between 500 MB - 1 Gig or more of space and 5 - 10 or more gigs of bandwidth a month. Ad free preferred, Don't mind Ads as long as they are unobtrusive and not in your face.

Also I looked through the offers posted in this thread, I don't think some are available anymore and others don't suit my needs. I don't have a job atm so I can't afford paid hosting for the time being but will be looking for paid hosting as soon as I get accepted for a job and have the necessary funds to get or keep a paid account.

I want to open an emulation website which offers emulation news, updates, legal non-copyrighted downloads, software/game news, tech support for emulation and PC/Electronics/Hardware, software where everyone can gather to help others who need help and discuss world events as well.

Also the host has to be pretty lenient on what they allow, freephphosting and quotaless impose a draconian TOS. Not to mention I can't use certain useful mods for Mybb on quotaless or freephphosting because of a
filetype restriction they impose.

Also I can't get the confirmation email to arrive in my inbox for freephphosting as it never arrives to my inbox nor my spam folder.

Thanks if anyone can help.

That's usually the norm with free webhosting. It's unreasonable to expect much more.

Well freephphosting and quotaless offer pretty good free packages except some filetypes are restricted which are critical to Mybb Mods and Themes.

I also have been unable to receive a confirmation email from freephphosting.

Like I said a host that is lenient on what kind of content is allowed would be preferred. Can have a bin (Hidden Forum) or topless/partially nude pictures of chicks as it goes against most free hosts No Adult Content rule, so no Boobs/Ass/Babes thread.

The reason I'm looking for a Free package whith at least 500 MB - 1 Gig of space is incase my forum grows quickly I have some time to get a new (Paid Host) lined up to move

there's always zendurl and x10hosting for everyone's random FULLY 100% LEGAL sites, but their terms are sooo hostile even linking to ngemu or to a site that links to ngemu is not allowed, IIRC (even in sigs, I think).
Also, they pretty much throw your contact info to your local enforcement agencies at the drop of a hat.

Given such superhostile terms, no way these could have been recommended by anyone sane...

two good file hosting sites:

4shared.com - free file sharing and storage
a good site with a windows like filebrowser, 100MB file limit and up to 5 GB storage with a multi uploader.

Box.net - Free Online File Storage, Internet File Sharing, Online Storage, Access Documents & Files Anywhere, Backup Data, Send Files
is another great site but max file size is 10 MB and max storage is 1 GB
they have many great features like you can play music directly, and preview the images, and edit the word documents on the web.

I'm still looking for hosting. Due to some things that came up I can only afford free hosting at this time.

I'm looking for as mentioned above, a host that provides C-Panel and anywheres between 500MB - 1 or 5 gigs of space for my forums. I don't mind ads as long as they are unobtrusive.

I've already been to FreeWebHostingTalk and back, most of the offers there are from newish or never heard of hosts, offers appear to be too good to be true and likely overselling.

I don't want to trust putting my forums on something that'll wind up shut down quickly since I trusted addyour.net and the admins went awol without server fees being accounted for leading to the demise of that hosting provider.

Thanks if anyone can list some free hosts you use, are more well known support C-Panel, PHP, MySQL with decent storage space.

I also decided not to use Flares service (Sorry Flare, nothing against you) so I need some suggetions for free hosting.

Anyone?????

Can anyone recommend anything? I found a few good hosts with decent space but their damn activation email is not reaching my inbox.

I found this other host called AwesomeWebSpace.com, but their website is extremely slow and my FTP client keeps disconnecting from their servers or timing out.

I'm looking for a host that offers 1 - 3 gigs (I know there are some out there) with no forced ads or ads which are fairly unobtrusive.

They must allow discussion on emulation, however nothing illegal will be on the website and it will conform to Ngemu's and General Emulations code of conduct. So they must be lenient enough to allow discussions pertaining to emulation, links to other emulation websites like Ngemu, Emutalk, DCemu and General Emulation.

My website is going to be a hardware, emulation and software support forum with emulation news with discussions on emulation.

I'm going to try to offer different things so I'm not labeled a copycat of Ngemu or General Emulation.

Thank You if anyone can give me any recommendations.

I really don't know what else to say other than you are unfortunately NOT going to find a reliable free host that offers that much storage space, supports PHP/MySQL let alone CPanel, AND does it all without ads or without horribly gaudy and prevalent ads. You're just going to keep running into this same situation over and over.

I may not be able to convince you, but you should talk to Kellan, Thorgal, n_w95482, hushy, Razor Blade, Rand Linden, cd, Lord Kane, mikeshoup, Reich, zenogais, Dgurion, Yeloazn, fluffy, Maximun, moomoomoo, etc... They're either currently using or have used the hosting or another service offered by me at some point in the past. They'll vouch for how solid the service is and how dedicated I am to perfecting what I offer or at least trying to come as close as possible to that goal.

It's all being upgraded, re-branded, and re-done anyway. So there's a lot to look forward to. I've been doing this since 2003 and our current hosted domain count is around 153 currently (with more on the way). I don't plan on disappearing any time soon. We have multiple servers, a quad core dedicated to DB/email operations, and lots and lots of great commercial software installed on those servers. We're not your typical bargain basement host running only free software. I shoot for quality above all else and I at least hope it shows.

I don't mean for this to sound too much like an advertisement, but I just want to get the point across that, if you're even the least bit serious about your website, I would look into a serious web host.

Nevermind,

I found a few hosts as mentioned above which are ad free and gives 8 gigs of space with 3 gig bandwidth per month.

I managed to work out the bugs with AwesomeWebspace.com and am now working on setting my forums up. It appears my problem was a permissions problem.

The others hosts I didn't have a problem with other than the activation email wouldn't reach my inbox.

AwesomeWebspace and the other hosts I reviewed offer ad free on the free account because they get revenue for people who pay for upgrades and premium paid hosting.

I'm updating my sig with link to my forum.

Also AwesomeWebspace is pretty damn fast. My forum loads in a matter of seconds and I'm on satellite internet which is running fairly slow now.
