yup the e3 video was on an ATI card but carmak also said that a GF4ti is currently the fastest (non NDA) card at the moment

Well I'm happy that my lowly 1Ghz + GF3ti 200 will be fast enough to run doom3

DOOM 3 BABY!!! Quake 4 I bet is going to be more of the same. I'm pretty sure Raven software is making it, so its probably going to just be an above average fps. Nothing you haven't seen before.

People who want to deathmatch and stuff would want Q4. While those who lean more towards single player would want Doom 3. Its going to be a draw in the end I bet.

There's no information on Quake 4 (Id only makes one game at a time, in 2-3 year intervals) so I doubt you'll hear anything about it soon.

Man, I wouldn't say this game looks pretty, but it sure is detailed!

I think this game will be alot of fun. (I'm already a big FPS fan anyway.)
The reason the game looks so good is not due to a high polygon count though. What they actually did is they created high poly characters and did their lighting effects on them. Then they made lower poly characters and somehow told the rendering engine to light the lower poly characters in the same way as the high poly characters. I'm pretty sure that John Carmack is the first to use this technique for lighting. Also its obvious that the textures are very well done.
Just the detail put into the urinals alone makes me want to wet myself.

Just thought I'd mention a little something:
Quote:
John Carmack said something that might actually scare some people. Apparantly, they made a small mistake when they were demoing Doom III at E3: they used medium quality, instead of high-quality configuration settings.
I got that from nVNews

I really can't wait for this game to appear. They hired an animator that worked on the movie Shrek and Antz. So guranteed it'll have excellent animation. The PC that was running the game at full speed was a P4 2GHZ and an ATI R300. When the game ships in late 2003 (which is my best guess), most people will have better than that. There will be (at least) another new GeForce board, intel and AMD will have 3.5GHZ chips out... A pc to run the game will be dirt cheap.

Think about this.. Quake 4 multiplayer. 100 players with that kind of graphics... Rockets shooting in all directions, realistic physics and effects. I think my PC just had a heart attack.

I also heard that M$ might be scoring the rights to the game and make it Xbox only... hmm that would be ALOT cheaper than buying a new pc. The Xbox just dropped to $299. Also if they make it Xbox only the developers can focus on ONE platform and make it the best ever. REALLY pushing the hardware. Rather than wasting time on compatibility with old systems. Cut months off development time and we'll see it sooner.
