How many fan in your case?

I just got my new setup working - AMD 2100+, Asus A7N8X, 256DDR400!

My case has a temperature LCD monitor on the front and I'm just wondering what difference it makes how you arrange your chassis fans.

I have 1 on the bottom on the front blowing air towards the back of the case, and another two stacked one on top of another that you can mount on the back end of the case just behind the CPU.

I'm more interested in the setup of those two. Should you have them both blowing air inside the case, or outside? Maybe the top one blowing in so it gives more air on the CPU and the other blowing out? Right now I have them both directing air into the case, which probably wouldn't be a good idea when summer starts up. I'm probably going to reverse them both but what do you guys think?

Note: I also have an Enermax fan control PSU with a fan on the bottom to suck out hot air.

General rule of thumb is that for every fan blowing air into the case, you have one blowing air out. In this way, you try to maintain a steady flow of air through the case.

Me personally.... I have them set in random order. It works reasonably well I suppose.

(I can never remember if the PSU fan outputs or inputs)

I would say that my fan setup is similar to Ninja's, random order. My PS has two fans, I have a case fan, a mother board fan, a fan on my GF TI 4600 video card, a Volcano 7+ fan and HS for my CPU, and an exhaust blower that sucks in hot air and blows it out the back. No more over heating problems for me.

almost same as mine, mine is like yours screen shot here, I put one big fan in front to suck in the air and a small fan a 3x3 cm fan in the back of the casing to throw away the heat from the processor.

Not that many. I have one large fan blowing into my case. It makes a lot of noise but its more effective at cooling my chip than any closed case setup I have. great for Overclocking

So two. but my Athlon Runs at like 75-85 Farenheight.

having two fans in a case is standard for the new ones. Ideally, the back should be blowing the air out while the front fan sucks it in.

Me? I just open the case and stick a 16" electric fan on it blowing air at the number 2 speed.

No more worries about airflow.

Dust worries? The case fans will just suck them into the case anyway, and in most cases the dust suck in will just swirl around the case and settle in every nook and cranny all the same. An open case won't let the dust settle on the mobo and stuff... it'll still get dirty (depending on the air quality of your town), but IMO not as much as a closed one.

Completely agree. Cases will get penetrated with dust easily. Only thing you gotta worry about is static discharge and thats easy to avoid if you ground yourself.

I have 4 fans in the bottom front sucking in air, which also cools the HDD's, and 2 fans in the back supposedly blowing air out but I reversed them. That makes 6 intakes and 1 outlet(PSU).

6 case fans, a Volcano7+ HS&F, the PSU's and the stock P4 cooling fan cooling my graphics card(Taken out due to no improvements in overclocking my GF2MX, will be put back in when the 9500Pro is available.), totalling 9(8) fans.

I have no case fans in my box. Only the PSU fan, CPU fan and the GPU fan. I used to have a fan blowing air out but I removed it, as don't think it's necessary. My CPU runs at around 30-40 degrees Celcius and I'm not worried about it overheating (it's an Intel chip afterall). I think case fans are only necessary if there's a lot of heat-generating devices in the computer, you overclock something or there's a lack of sufficient airflow (probably with very large/tall cases).

I have a fan at the very bottom front of my case blowing in. Another at the front blowing in on my HD. and one at the back just above my AGP slot sucking air out. There is actually some nice airflow inside my case although it is a little noisy but not too bad. Then of course there is the CPU, GPU and PS fans. So I have 6 fans in my case total.

in my set up i have the usual power supply, video card and cpu fan. the fan in the front of the case is gone so i make up for it with 2 exhaust fans. nothing is locking up and nothing has melted, so it must be working fine. and its a 1 gig athlon, so it runs hot naturaly

Well in my case there 2x blowing air inwards front bottom, 3x exhaust at the back. That, plus the ones on the cpu/videocard and in the 2 psu's make a total of 9. Damn thing sounds like its about to take off

Yep. The case is an old modified AT case. Rather than fork out $$$ to get a new case when ATX only mobos came along, I got an ATX psu, cut a hole in the back of the case. Then wired up the ATX psu to the mobo, but put the reset switch to the power on jumper. The ATX also has the HDD's. Everything else (fans, dvd's etc) are on the old AT. To switch it on you have to press the power on button followed by reset.

I think it's cheaper (and less complex) to just get an old server or full tower case

You can usually get those from offices phasing out old equipment, or even from Uni.

This "DUST" makes me clean my PC once per month.
