Thumbs up Star Trek reference in FF9

ive been playing FF9 a little, im up to disc 3 where you need to find the potions for Cid. when asking around, i found this star trek reference, adding to the Cloud&Squall reference and the "i knew a spiky haired guy who had one of these" reference

Re: Star Trek reference in FF9

FF9 is filled with many many references...which is weird, i dont think the other FF games have anywhere close to as many references

....hehe... Boltzmann is going to love this.
...bones was always funny - especially when he argued with Spock, IMO.
I'm wondering if these references were also in the original Japanese version of FF9, or they were randomly added when the game was "localized"...

Re: Star Trek reference in FF9

There were probably always references, but the original references might've been aimed at japanese anime and stuff.

Re: Star Trek reference in FF9

Well I do think square are SF nuts. Eg// most ff games have characters named after Luke's wingmen from star wars.

My fav reference to other FFs is at the end of the game, when Zidane's disguised, he says "No cloud nor squall shall hinder us"

Re: Star Trek reference in FF9

damnit that is cheesy
i hope it didn't come from the japanese version, because if it did it'll destroy what little respect i have left for FF series.
if it's just from the translation, then that's another story.

Bubblegum Crsis 2040 also makes a nod at Startek. One of the random bars is called 'Ten Forward'

why man, i think it's awesome? its cool when they put little fragments of other stuff hither and thither.

and, of course it's from the localization crew, or else it was some clever japanese

Re: Star Trek reference in FF9

A reference is cool if it isn't special otherwise. Like using a first name that could've been anyone's name, or a quote that could've come from anyone.

A reference is cheesy if it is special to the original. Like using a full name, or a unique and long quote.

Re: Star Trek reference in FF9

i think its cool like that (long quote), and FF9 is filled with that stuff.

i think "cheesy" is if it's just plain STUPID. i dont think this is stupid...
