Thumbs up Progress with Halo

There's some progress with Halo in the latest CVS source tree. You can now get to the menus with it. (Debug mode only though) The game crashes after you select your difficulty level.

They appear all screwed up on my system, but at least there is some progress. I have included a few screenshots to demonstrate the current state of the emulation.

zomby, you spilled the beans a little early :>

yeah, halo is making good progress. there are issues (probably simple swizzling problems) with textures; but other than that, halo is able to boot up very fast so it is mostly minor fixes to get the menu working really nicely. then i'll get it in-game and see what new fun there is to fix.

halo likes to modify it's textures at unusual times, which had me scratching my head until last night when I put in a fix and suddenly everything started showing textures.

Sorry about that.

I was too glad to see some interesting new developments to keep this to myself.

No, it uses a different dev pack, it uses one of the first ones out there...

Speeking of Halo i'll see if i can get a network sniffer on it to see what kind of network packets it runs. ( this will proly happen in the next 8 weeks)

That's an interesting liveng, hehe, nah its not high priority at all... i mean going from knowing what packets it sends to emulation them is a long way, and i'm sure caustik will rather be addin more xdk versions then network support for halo, so that we can use a pc to kick my friends in a lan game, considering how much better a mouse/keyboards is the a ny controller.

and with XBConnect having a good user base PC-->Xbox play online is only LAN support away (not that thats easy, but its easier then full XBLive emulation)

I know this sounds a little selfish in my first post :-P but, isn't packet sniffing for Halo illegal? Meh

Also, I would think that the tpc/ip udp protocol would be the "same" as windows 2000/xp so emulating it should be easy. Key word is should be tho :-p

Yeh well, wasent emulating xbox games the way caustik does it considered "easy" to all the other methods? and i don't see how sniffing stuff on your own LAN can be illegal if your the owner

Well... Id gotta say there is nothing easy about what they are doing with cxbx. Id say read up on how it works. I think its harder then other emulators but with a huge pay off in speed in the end.
